Description:
Also known as Hump Coral. It is one of the largest coral colonies in the world, growing up to about 8m in height and can cover many square meters. Branches are smooth on the surface, furry-looking at night when the polyps' tentacles are extended.
Habitat:
This species occurs in the southwest, central and northern Indian Ocean, the central Indo-Pacific, Australia, Southeast Asia, Japan and the West Philippine Sea, the oceanic West Pacific.
Notes:
This coral, which looks like a very young colony, was spotted at a depth of less than 10m, off the western coast of Samal Island, Philippines.
