Field Notes

Description:

There were probably about fifty of the birds in trees and flying over the lake tanycomo past the dam. They had 3-5ft wingspans it seemed and were all black with a bit of red around the beak. They were huge!

Habitat:

I've seen them in the ozark valleys and up in the hills and one pair even roosts on my neighbors chimney in the fall in flat as can be Kansas.

Notes:

There were so many!! They were huge and awesome. About 10 watched me from a tree, 15 circled over in my vicinity and you could see similar sized groups all up and down the valley.

I live by Lake Taneycomo and we are seeing more each day. This week I saw a group of 20 or so on the ground.
