Description:

Species of African cichlid, vary from bright ruby red to a dull red, and have a prominent one prominent dark spot on each side.

Notes:

Common exotic/invasive freshwater fish species in south Florida. This specimen was captured using fish traps at Archbold Biological Station

Archbold is slightly NW of lake O, sorry about that
They don't get larger than about 5in, so you wouldn't catch them on a rod and reel, I caught them using minnow traps. They have been in the glades since maybe as early as 1950s. Changes in everglades water management has allowed them to spread north since the 2000s and theyre now as far north as Tampa. This specimen was caught at Archbold biological station, which is slightly NE of lake okeechobee, I've caught nearly 900 since.
I have fished Florida my whole life and have never see one, very interesting. Did u net it by chance? As a wild guess...SE Florida?
