It is difficult for me to determine between the 2 suggested species as my photos are not clear enough but based on the fact that there are two herds of Deer (one Red and one Fallow) living in these woods I am inclined to agree with Jopy. Either way it is a Dung beetle.
Interestingly found this or similar species at Pig Bush New Forest last Sunday 17th october, in leaf litter. I think it is a UK Scarab beetle, probably Anoplotrupes stercorosus.
