Field Notes

Description:

White wading bird with a long black beak and an s-shaped neck. Its legs were long.

Habitat:

This white wading bird was found in the shallow water at the edge of MacRitchie Reservoir.

Species ID Suggestions

Eastern Great Egret (most likely candidate in S.E. Asia)

Ardea alba modesta

A black beak might indicate that this is a breeding bird. Here's one I spotted just recently, so the comparison might help. Non-breeding birds will have a yellow beak and facial skin. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/73236005
