Field Notes

Description:

Fly with white hairs on the head and thorax. Its abdomen is long, black, and slender. It has gray spots on most of the segments. There is red on the legs at the end of each femur and beginning of each tibia. The wings are brown but transparent.

Habitat:

Ground in backyard garden. This fly was on the ground and was attacked by a red ant (second image). I pried the ant off of its leg and placed it on a flower. It eventually flew off.

Notes:

Proud to be part of Project Noah for 9 years, today!!!
