Field Notes

Description:

Iridescent head and thorax, dark brown body with cream markings, bulbous eyes, large mandibles and white hairs on legs and underneath.

Habitat:

Spotted in a dry creek bed full of rocks next to the Umtanum creek. These ground beetles prefer to be near lake, river or creek margins where it is sandy. There they can use their speed to run down prey.
