Description:
This one was a large and robust specimen - it was difficult to measure it in any way, as all we could see from our shelter was the head and eyes... Typical frog with long hind legs and well defined and visible central and lateral lines on the back, generally green-colored. However, there is large variation in coloring, from green to brown or grey; with dark blotches or spots. Ventral side on all specimens observed was white or pale in color sporting same black spots
Habitat:
Marsh frog is native to Europe, and widespread within its range. It is water-dwelling, and can be seen around lakes, rivers, ponds or marshes. Seen well in protected marshlands of Geneva suburbs, Mategnin-les-Crêts.
Notes:
This frog was the intended prey the heron on my previous spotting so intently observed for a couple of minutes... while my son and I observed the whole scene from a near-by observatory shelter. Finally, I think we made some noise - I was probably hushing/shushing my son who was losing his patience - and heron abandoned the pursuit...
