Field Notes

Description:

A very small ( about 5 mm) long hopper nymph. Body mostly brown with throax and wing buds a bluish-grey. The entire body had pale specks. Fore legs showed stiff spiky hairs as did the last abdominal segment.

Habitat:

Spotted on a dry leaf of a eucalyptus sapling.

Notes:

Not the usual colour nor did it have the stiff brush of waxy crystalline hairs arising from the rear end.
I need to research further for an ID but would appreciate help. thanks.

Thanks Mark...or perhaps this one - Brunotartessus fulvus (yellow-headed leafhopper) http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_leafhoppers/Leafhoppers.htm the rear end seems to have spikes ! We've spotted quite a few of these at Wick's - need to visit again to check out for adults.

My suggestion is based on my checking over the whole sapling and finding several adults and other instars of Two-lined gum hopper and no other species. Maybe a rash assumption.
