New jersey has some great habitat conservation programs that are keeping these guys at large, I'm quite thankful to grow up with critters like these
Nice photo, and spotting. I hadn't ever seen one with the spots on its skin so large or dark. Interesting how the same critter can look different depending on where it is spotted. Here is what they look like around North Florida - note the smaller skin spots, and much lighter spots and skin color. The shell has a reddish/orange tint in places as well. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8508339 they are becoming harder and harder to find around here due to their habitat being taken over by humans :(
