Field Notes

Description:

In its juvenile form, the crab is a dark brown, purple, or orange in color. As an adult, it is a bluish-gray color. Females sometimes appear light gray or white. One claw is larger than the other and the walking legs are sparsely hairy.

Habitat:

I found this crab scurrying about in the woods, near a body of water. They live inside holes or burrows.

Florida is awesome oxyjack and thank you for your compliment! I am always amazed at the variety of critters I see, just in my yard!! :)
How cool is that? I have to see Florida someday, you guys have the coolest critters.
Thanks, Mary! He didn't want anything to do with me that is for sure!
Wonderful spotting. Love watching these guys scurry about - and then dart into their holes when someone (or something) approaches. Nice captures.
