Field Notes

Description:

This sea star's colors vary from place to place. They feed on molluscs, worms and detritus, and grow to a width of about 25cm.

Habitat:

Found singly or in groups on coral and rocky reefs on sand and rubble areas, at depths of 0 to 115m. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific and the Caribbean.

Notes:

I photographed this sea star at a depth of about 85 feet. The 3rd photo shows its underside.
