Field Notes

Description:

Member of Convolvulaceae family. Not endemic to Crete but naturalised after escape of plants grown as ornamentals. Beautiful vivid electric blue colour in fresh young flowers, fading to a purple or magenta colour later. Vigorous climbing perennial.

Habitat:

In Crete, it is usually close to cultivation/gardens. This specimen was by the roadside, inbetween the Orthodox Monastery of Kolymbari and the Orthodox Academy of Crete, just a few metres above sea-level.
