No way! Boy, I was way off! That looks to be what it is! Great find...and good on your son for being such a sleuth!
We got it (took my son 2 minutes, show off). Armadillo pelvis. Who knew they had those spikes under their smooth armor.
I'll add new pictures tonight. I agree it looks like a pelvis, but I just don't know what type of bird would have those spikes along its back. I'd like to guess iguana, but we don't have those in this area. I suppose it could have been an escaped pet that died in the cold.
I believe this to be some kind of avian pelvis, but I'm not really sure. Could you post some better pictures?
