Field Notes

Description:

The little wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera), also known as the brush wattlebird, is a honeyeater, a passerine bird in the family Meliphagidae. It is found in coastal and sub-coastal south-eastern Australia.

The Little Wattlebird is a medium to large honeyeater, but it is the smallest of the wattlebirds. They are mostly dark grey-brown above, with faint white shafts on each of the feathers. The young one resembles its mother except that it is a little darker in colour.

Saw this mother and its young in my garden feeding on Australian native flowers. The young one was really pestering it's mother for food.

Habitat:

Urban Garden in Ventnor, Phillip Island
