The first photo is a "Fiddlehead" fern....which are the furled fronds of a young fern, harvested for use as a vegetable. Left on the plant, each fiddlehead would unroll into a new frond. Welcome to Project Noah!! :)

Moved to plants category. Unfortunately my NZ ferns book is buried deeeep in storage. There are som very knowledgable NZ users on her though. Hopefully one can ID it.
