Field Notes

Description:

This frog is pale to rich chocolate brown on its back with darker flecks and blotches. It has long legs and an elongate body. A dark stripe runs from the snout to the eye. Behind the eye the stripe becomes broader and encloses the tympanum (tight membrane covering the entrance to the ear). This dark broad band then merges with the dark colouring on the side of the body. A pale stripe runs from below the eye to the base of the arm. The lower arms and legs are brown with dark brown cross-bars. The belly is white and usually heavily flecked with brown. The skin on the back is smooth with a few low tubercles (lumps) and a distinctive skin fold running down the back behind the eye. The finger and toe pads are small. The toes are fully webbed.

Habitat:

This frog lives in a variety of habitats including rainforests, dry monsoon forests and tropical woodlands. It is often seen at night near lagoons and streams.
