Field Notes

Description:

A large, spreading & long lived evergreen oak tree. The picture of the south, with Spanish Moss draped upon it's limbs. This tree is estimated to be 300-400 yrs. old.

Habitat:

Coastal community: Safety Harbor Florida

Notes:

This magnificent Live Oak was slated for removal to build commercial building about 20 years ago. One woman camped out there day & night to protect it. I just happened through Safety Harbor yesterday hoping to find the tree still there & was SO pleased to find it. The diameter on the first tree is around 8 ft.
The second tree was growing on an Indian Mound & the people removed the shell from beneath it to use for road building and left the tree's roots bare. It's big too but not nearly as large as the first photo.
