Field Notes

Description:

Of some 5 cm in wingspan, this is a predominantly orange butterfly with white borders and black pattern on wings. It looked a tiny bt different in pattern than my previous spotting, which made me wonder if it was NOT M. partenoides...

Habitat:

Seen on flowers in montane grasslands & pastures (about 750 of altitude), but on the bottom of the slope, and close to mixed and protected forest. The area is in lake Geneva valley, at the feet of Jura mountain range.
