Field Notes

Description:

The Danaid Eggfly, Mimic, or Diadem (Hypolimnas misippus) is a widespread species of nymphalid butterfly.

I wasn't able to catch the beautiful blue of the spots as it was overcast, quite late in the day. It didn't seem too worried by my presence, just flying a few meters ahead when I got to close.

Habitat:

fire trail running along parallel to the Pacific Ocean 10 - 20 meters inland.

Notes:

I was quite surprised to see this butterfly in Australia. I have now seen it in India and several places in Africa.
