Description:

The caps and gills of the fungi in this family - many of them known as inky caps - blacken with age and melt into an inklike liquid. As the spore-containing liquid drips to the ground, the species renews itself. Cap columnar, with white scales. (edges flare our, cap turing inky with age)

Habitat:

Lawns, pasture, roadside.
