Field Notes

Description:

This beautiful bird is best known for its "moonwalk" courtship dance where the male skillfully glides backward on a branch in a well choreographed ritual to catch the attention of nearby females.

Notes:

This bird was banded at Finca Esperanza Verde, an organic shade-grown coffee farm in the Nicaragua highlands. The banding project is an ongoing one that serves to study the importance of shade grown coffee in protecting the biological diversity of regions that would otherwise be clear cut.
