Field Notes

Description:

Fly... 15mm long. wings overlapped at rest; abdomen banded; eyes seem to have some banding/pattern (non compound?); head very robust; thorax has some pattern.

Habitat:

Resting or feeding on "wild carrot" (introduced, naturalised), within dry, very open casurina and acacia forest and grassland.

Notes:

Looks very similar to austalis sp. http://www.plottier.net/albums/userpics/10002/Hover%20Fly.jpg
with the obvious exception of colouring.
