Field Notes

Description:

These handsome little animals have tan to reddish-brown fur on the upper parts of their body with five dark brown stripes and contrasting light brown stripes along the back. Their bellies are lighter colored. A light stripe runs over the top of the eyes. Their tails are darker.

Habitat:

Eastern deciduous forests, some city parks and well-wooded suburban yards.

Notes:

This particular chipmunk was stuffing his cheek pouches with sunflower seeds and then hiding them in a nearby woodpile.
