Field Notes

Description:

I had a hard time with this one. It's hard to tell because of the harsh green lighting from the sunlit leaf, but this male has a colorful pattern on his abdomen to go along with those black stripes.

Habitat:

Under a small leaf of a tall herbaceous plant. (perhaps horseweed)

Notes:

[Originally assumed to be a male Orchard Spider.]

My own experiences with these striking spiders: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/2131246002 https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/525656006
I see that, the abdomen pattern and boldness of the thorax stripe is very much closer to this specimen. Crazy how (at least at a glance) similar the two species in question are. Thank you very much.
I would like to counter with Theridion sp., especially with the web structure. They seem to be difficult to ID to species (at least on Bug Guide). Their coloration over all on the yellow ones is very close to yours. https://bugguide.net/node/view/318268 https://bugguide.net/node/view/995344/bgimage
this is the front side with the black stripe on the thorax:https://bugguide.net/node/view/775555
