Field Notes

Description:

A very young Five-lined Skink. At this stage they have not fully developed the namesake lines completely. As they reach adulthood they lose much of their bright coloration, including the blue tails.

Habitat:

A nature preserve in southern Florida.

Notes:

Many people call these blue-tail skinks, but that is actually a genus found in Australia unrelated to the new world species.
