Description:
The Ringlet is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae, widely distributed throughout the Palearctic ecozone. On this specimen the front feet, which in this family are atrophied and used as sensory organs, are well visible. Only the four remaining feet are used for locomotion.
Habitat:
Edge of forest near a stream, alt. 1500m ASL. The plant is a Wood Ragwort (Senecio ovatus), a host to several of these butterflies on that day.
Notes:
This species shows a preference for woodland edges, and blackberry bushes in particular. Only representative of the genus Aphantopus in Europe.
