Description:
This is the UK's largest white butterfly. Both males and females have white wings with black tips on the forewings. The female also has two black spots on each forewing. The underside of each wing is a pale green. This poor butterfly was a little worse for ware though!
Habitat:
Can be found in many locations with the majority of the adults found close to breeding areas where brassica crops are grown.
Notes:
The Large White can be found throughout the UK. It is a resident species that breeds in large numbers in the UK and the population is added to by migrants from mainland Europe. These butterflies can be frequently seen between the end of April to end of June and from mid July to October.
