Field Notes

Description:

Exact same color as the muddy sand at the bottom of the creek, yellow eyes, speckles, very sharp claws (I would know.), nippy, well hidden, and VERY fast.

Habitat:

Found at Bear Creek Trail, near the bank under some rocks. I would never have seen him.

Notes:

When my mom told me to stay still and started lifting up rocks, I thought maybe there was some small interesting thing, but then I saw the head of the small softshell, and by the time I realized that he had nipped my mom and tried to get away, luckily for this spotting he did not succeed, and we managed to get some good pictures of him before we released him back into the wild.
Am I the only one who thinks that his plastron looks like a frowny face?
