Field Notes

Description:

About 40-45 mm of body length and some 70mm of wingspan. Abdomen broad and flattened, males sport it covered by blue pruinosity. Wings have distinguished dark base, helping to ID the species.

Habitat:

Very common dragonfly in Europe; here observed in sub-urban setting of Lyon, a backyard garden on borders of a forest.
