Carol,bread is not good for the Ducks.We are not allowed to feed the ducks and geese at the nature reserve, But if you are allowed to feed them then you can buy chicken feed from the local pet store. It is not that expensive either. a little more than the bread though!!
WOW, there were so many different appearances of mallard ducks. I am going to have to go back there. Must have been 50 or more ducks. Must bring bread. HA! Thanks so so much Liam and Emma for your help.

With that bill and the paler cheeks, I'd say it's an "American Black Mallard" (Anas rubripes x platyrhynchos), an American Black Duck x Mallard hybrid.
