Field Notes

Description:

The females are brown/tan with an orange beak. They have the same mask that the males do, only it can be much lighter. This species has juvenile males that look like the adult females, but their beaks are not orange yet but more black/grey/orange. The juvenile males also get splotches of red after a season.

Notes:

In the last pic, she is flying to the feeder. She was heavier than the feeder allowed...so she kept closing the food holes.

Thank you for the nice comments Cindy, Alex, Krista, and Kat. And thank you all for having short names to type. :-)
What an expression on that first picture! Great series!
and there she thought: What's up, dont take that picture, i'm just awake. Seriously: nice picture cool diva!
She might be grumpy...she kept closing the feeder she was flying too for sunflower seeds. She was too heavy for that particular feeder. She finally found one of the many others in my front yard.
