Northern Cardinal (Female)
Cardinalis cardinalis
33.7748, -84.2963
Field Notes
Description:
The females are brown/tan with an orange beak. They have the same mask that the males do, only it can be much lighter. This species has juvenile males that look like the adult females, but their beaks are not orange yet but more black/grey/orange. The juvenile males also get splotches of red after a season.
Notes:
In the last pic, she is flying to the feeder. She was heavier than the feeder allowed...so she kept closing the food holes.
