Gatekeeper are both, so which one ;-)?? I already commented that I am tending towards Pyronia tithonus, the Gatekeeper. If you have a confirmation (Eduardo Marabuto, Ernestino Maravalhas?), you might add the correct scientific name in the corresponding field.
Thank you, but i already have the confirmation that this is a Gatekeeper :)
I apologize, the correct taxonomic tree should certainly be: Nymphalidae, Satyrinae, Satyrini, Maniolia, Pyronia sp. Do you have other pictures of it??
Nymphalidae, Nymphalinae, Maniolini, Pyronia sp. and most probably either Pyronia tithonus, the Gatekeeper or Pyronia cecilia, the Southern Gatekeeper and I also guess it is a male. We would need more pictures to separate the 2 almost identical species. I would slightly tend to the Gatekeeper. http://www.schmetterling-raupe.de/art/cecilia.htm http://www.leps.it/indexjs.htm?SpeciesPages/PyronCecil.htm http://www.leps.it/indexjs.htm?SpeciesPages/PyroTithon.htm http://www.schmetterlingswelt.com/images/ochsenauge-rotbraunes05.2.jpg http://www.schmetterlingswelt.com/images/ochsenauge-rotbraunes04.2.jpg http://www.schmetterlingswelt.com/images/ochsenauge-suedl11.1.jpg http://www.schmetterlingswelt.com/images/ochsenauge-suedl08.jpg http://www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/Britain%20-%20Pyronia%20tithonus.htm
