Field Notes
Description:
This extremely ancient rose originated in the Middle East and was being cultivated in Europe by the 16th century. It is thought to be a cross between a Gallica, such as the Apothecary Rose, and Musk Rose. Autumn Damask was also known in France as 'Quatre Saisons' referring to its habit of re-blooming by the end of the season. The fragrant petals of this rose were used for making perfume and for their medicinal properties in the practice of apothecaries.
