Field Notes
Notes:
We went out in a wooded area to search for lichen in southern Maine U.S.A. It was 8:00 am when we went out on January 18. It was 4 degrees celsius with 21.14 kph wind gusts. The deeper we went the lesser the sun. There is 20 cm. of snow on the ground. It got colder as the day went on. The lichen is a blue color. Birch Polypore grows as well as it on the same tree. Green is in the middle of the lichen. The tree it grows on is a Birch tree. We did not get a sample of the lichen. I believe it is a Flavopunctelia soredica. Since it has a scaly thallus like the one that I found. It has a color like the one I found. It does grow in North America. It grows in a temperate forest which it was found in. That is why I think it is a Flavopunctelia Soredica.
