Description:

The saliva of this species of sea snail contains sulfuric acid and is able to dissolve the calcareous bodies of sea urchins. They also feed on sea cucumbers, sea stars, and even the crown-of-thorns sea star. They grow to a length of about 10cm in length.

Habitat:

Found singly on coral and rocky reefs, at depths of 5 to 30m. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

I spotted this juvenile triton (and a few more others) at a depth of about 7m.
