Description:

colors match those of a monarch butterfly, but not sure if this caterpillar actually turns into one. ID would be great fully appreciated.

Thank you Misha and Karen. Not the best of photos as was taken with a very old camera - we do have tons of buckeyes and fritillaries (most common the Gulf fritillary ).
I'm going to go with a common buckeye. There's some variation in the larval forms, and in this photo we're looking at an angle that isn't usually shown in keys, but from what I've seen in the field this looks like a buckeye.
Definitely not a monarch Mary! Looks to be a fritillary of some kind. I will try & find an ID for you.
