Field Notes

Description:

The colony is spherical and looks like brain coral on steroids! It has thick meandering ridges that are raised about 3 or 4cm.

Habitat:

Widespread in the Indo-West Pacific. This species of stony coral is found on most reef environments, at depths of up to 40 m.

Notes:

Spotted this coral at a depth of about 25 feet. This species is targeted by the aquarium trade and is threatened as well by habitat loss.
