Field Notes

Description:

Simple, clean white 25mm flowers in clusters of up to 10 with six petals. The flowers were on top of a single, plain, tubular stem about 40cm above ground. The base was a clump of narrow, long, pointed, dark green leaves.

Habitat:

Near a small lake in a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Aboriginals ate the tubers either raw or cooked.
These flowers were already host to some small crab spiders which look like they're doing quite well for themselves. The spiders must be about 2mm.
Beautiful spotting Mark, congrats on the well deserved SOTD and thanks for sharing
Thanks Chamalka, Tiz, Marta. I saw them again today and was surprised how small they are... but still very attractive.

Thank you Gilma. Yes I think you might be right.. not many flower SOTD.
Beautiful flowers!! Congratulations on the SOTD, Mark Ridgway. Isn't this one of the few if not the first "Flower/Plants" that gets that honor, here in PN?

That's wonderful. Thanks so much Yasser. I'm not usually big on flowers but these sweet little gems plucked some heartstrings.
Mark, it might be simple, but it's a beauty and our Spotting of the Day! It was quite fascinating to read about how the potato-like tubers were used as food too. Thanks for sharing this stunner and so many others and thanks for all you do for the community. Very nice shoot, love the detail
These are lovely. I have been seeing a lot of crab spiders of the Mecaphesa sp out here on yellow flowers.
