Chequered Keelback also known as a Asiatic Water Snake

Xenochrophis piscator

It looks like Xenochrophis sanctijohannis but its distribution has never been assessed need full body shot for conformation..
I've got a time lag here. I meant the chequered. Look at the third middle headshot photo on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiesma_stolatum Does this specimen have a single anterior temporal shield?
Looks like a good guess...wish we could see the nostrils better http://eol.org/pages/289362/overview
To me it looks more like a variety of Keelback similar to Buffed-sided Keelback Amphiesma stolatum
Perhaps a Chequered Keelback also known as a Asiatic Water Snake (Xenochrophis piscator) after looking further, and with only this photo as a reference, I am going to take a flyer and say this is your snake. I wish I could see more of its face, and more markings on its body.
do you have more pictures of the snake?
