Field Notes

Description:

A small cluster of rounded, white mushrooms. the heads look as if there are pores...almost like a sponge.

Habitat:

Woodland area, under trees near water.

Notes:

I know less than zero about mushrooms...would love some help. Any good guide books for beginners?

I agree with Christine that it looks a lot like L. perlatum. Hard to tell from just one angle, however. :)
They look like puffballs, maybe lycoperdon perlatum.
