Starlings
Sturnus vulgaris
44.0545, -123.079
Field Notes
Description:
large black bird
Habitat:
roadside
Notes:
I found just 2 starlings, but starlings sometimes fly in HUGE flocks! At one time, there was no starlings in the United States. Nope, not a single one. But now there millions of starlings. And they can become a pest. If they get into an orchard, they eat all the fruit. Starlings are an invasive species, an animal in the wrong place. 130 years ago, someone brought a group of starlings to the United States from the UK, which is where starlings are from.
The starlings started eating all the food for other birds (and people).
Starlings can also get food in the winter, and in spring, the starlings had took the other birds food and nests.
Starlings are a pest.
