Description:
The mature bark of a paper birch is white, peeling in papery horizontal strips. Leaves are alternate and egg-shaped, larger towards the base and tapered to a sharp poised tip.
Habitat:
Spotted on the Tamarac Blackbird Drive. Found in part shade, sun, upland forests. Adapts to cooler, moisture conditions that a forest ecology provides.
Notes:
Paper birch is a native tree and is common in Minnesota
