Description:
I spotted this toad in the leaf litter of a deciduous forest. It was large (~8 cm long) and sluggish...typical American toad :)
Habitat:
I observed it for a few minutes until it casually walked over to its burrow, which was under a large rock. It turned around and backed up into the hole. It kept backing up until it disappeared. Too curious for my own good, I gently stuck my hand into the hole to see how far back it went. I was unable to feel the toad or the end of the burrow! It was deep.
Notes:
**Common sense note - It is a bad idea to stick your hand into dark holes, especially if you don't know what's in there.
