Field Notes
Description:
Pic 1 shows a female gall with four winged horns. The gall was semi dry and still had a thin waxy coating. On a neighbouring branch were clusters of similar galls (Pics 2 & 3). Pic 3 shows a female gall with small short tubular male galls on it. The male galls have apical holes thorugh which the adult insect would have emerged.
Habitat:
Spotted on a eucalyptus tree (pic 4) near a lake in a reserve.
Notes:
These galls were formed by a gall forming scale insect Apiomorpha of the Eriococcidae family.
