Field Notes

Habitat:

I spotted this copulating pair of Common Flesh Flies in our backyard on Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides Linn.). This plant is called Bulak-manok, in Tagalog (the major Dialect in the Philippines), but in Tina Sambal (our local dialect and one of the smallest), it is called Salunay. The plant information comes from http://www.stuartxchange.com/Bulak.html....

Notes:

The Genus Sarcophaga is a member of the Subfamily Sarcophaginae. They are recognized by the black and gray longitudinal stripes on the thorax and checkering, in the same colours on the abdomen. These flies are well known for carrying a number of diseases, but they do not normally enter houses. So the threat of spreading these ailments to people is much reduced.
