29.9987, -84.4878
Field Notes
Description:
White squirrel with small gray stripe on top of head that runs down along its back and tail. Note- this is NOT an albino as it lacks the pink eyes, and contains gray marking. also known as the Brevard White Squirrel.
Notes:
This is a true white squirrel, not an albino (note the gray on head, down the back, and the lacking of the pink/red eyes.
This beautiful squirrel is living at the Ochlockonee River State Park, in Sopchoppy Florida.
I had the pleasure to see two of these running around the picnic area. They were hanging out with our more common gray squirrels. Coming pretty close and begging for peanuts.
I have since learned that they have been a residence here for many years and are well known by the locals and regular park visitors. What a treat for me, as I had only seen albino squirrels in and around Tallahassee a few times, but never a true white squirrel.
