Notes:

This cocoon was (is) hanging from a thin branch. It has a beige color that seems gold in the sun light. It has what looks like a zipper opening at one side, but it actualy is closed. The cocoon is translucent, although it does not apear in the photograph.

I confidently agree with Livan and expect that a dozen mantid nymphs will emerge from this egg case. In my country, they wait the cold winter and emerge as the days begin to get warmer. They eat most of each other and the strongest few survive. You may consider revising your reference notes describing this as a cocoon, however you can then add it to the eggs mission =)

Hey Livan, it seems very similar to me. I have seen very few mantis where I go to photograph - wich doesn't mean they don't exist. I'll go back to that place and try to follow what happens to it (and what leaves from there). Thank you, pal.

Something else to consider. The first thing that this structure reminded me of was of a Mantid's ootheca (egg case) like this one though this one is longer and more "ribbed" http://bugguide.net/node/view/97856/bgimage they can be more round like this: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo199674.htm
