Description:

Widespread North American subspecies of Tyto alba, this owl is rarely seen during the day. It has a pale underside with darker colored back and wings, long legs, and very wide wingspan.

Habitat:

Open country, farm or grassland, sometimes woodlands.

Notes:

This spotting occurred during a routine fledgling banding session.

I'm glad you like it. It was actually taken during a census of Barn Owl nests in Central Pennsylvania in 2009. This was the oldest of the fledglings at this particular nest, and is definitely a wild bird.
