Description:
These large rodents are usually dark brown or black in color, with lighter colored quill tips. They have a chunky body, a small face, short legs and a short thick tail.
Habitat:
Thickets and woodlands, sometimes shrub and scrub areas. Small populations exist in desert and tundra habitats on the edges of their range.
